goodbye january

time passes so quickly these days.
january never seems to go by too quickly for me (let's be honest), but this month the time passed by so nicely.

a month full of quietness.
of reading and making and evenings at home.
of long, long and frequenter and frequenter phone calls with my best friend.
of decluttering, just a comfortable amount.
of using walkie-talkies sometimes
of buying an armchair that I've wanted for a long time
of first aid kit, on repeat forever.
of puzzles taking up our dinner table (we just picnic on the living room rug)
of sitting on the floor of barnes and noble, soaking up gorgeous photos of recipes and homes and lovely things (do you do this? am I the only one? is that why they look the way they do?)

my ankle has been injured and I've been not running and learning that I can be okay without it. and that yoga makes me crazy after about six minutes.
I don't think I'm made to do calm, still exercise just yet and that's cool with me.
rollerblading is my new fave.

I went nuts and painted my old brown desk a happy, bright teal that makes me smile every time I see it.

thomas bought himself a hat that hasn't left his head since the day it arrived in a box on our front step. I love it.
sometimes I come home and he is by himself here, doing a puzzle, just wearing his hat.

and after weeks and months of going back and forth in my head and being ever so practical about growing my hair out long and not chopping it off the way I used to, I cut myself some bangs. getting married and working a dayjob and paying the bills is practical enough for me.
I don't want to get ahead of myself there.

we laugh so much. I want to say that. we have the best time.
sometimes we come home after work and don't go anywhere or do anything noteworthy, but we just do ridiculous things to make each other laugh. nobody told me married life was like that.
you know how they say that laughter makes you live longer?
I'm glad of that.

and hey, I'm excited for february!
what about you? big plans?

we've got a few.
my christmas present from thomas was a plane ticket (well, two of them) to chicago to visit my bff, and I get to do that this month!
he is taking the opportunity while I'm gone to go on a big camping trip in the snow with his friends.
we are beyond excited.
